All images broken Please help
I have just bought the vb licence and found this site and its great themes, I have not converted my forum from phpbb to vb yet as I want to get everything ready first.

Now I have downloaded a couple of your great themes and installed them on my test forum ready for the conversion but none of the images show and some of the links are not working.

the problem is that the test forum is http://www.unlocker-forums.co.uk/testvb but all the images are droping a dir to http://www.unlocker-forums.co.uk

now even if I install it on the root folder of my server I am still going to have problems as it is going to try and drop down a level?

can someone help me out on this as these are some of the best free styles I have seen for vb and would be a shame if I couldnt use them

thanks in advance

Did you install the style folder in your_forum_root/designs/? That's where it belongs. Did you follow the instructions for install? And you added the style in your admin panel the way you are s'posed to? You will have to edit the control that points to your images -- it tells you this in the directions.

Please go over the directions again and see if there isn't something you left out. And you should install vB and try it out in plain vanilla form before you add any styles. Then add styles one at a time to see if each works before going on to the next.

[edit]I looked and it seems you are fine. what's the problem? also, be sure to get the English buttons.[/edit]

Hi mate thanks for the reply, ok here is exactly what I did so if I have missed anything please let me know.

installed vb on my test forum and the bog standard style works fine with no errors at all.

I uploaded the vision style to my test forum, below is the details of where etc

http://www.unlocker-forums.co.uk/testvb (forum is located in a testvb not in root)

now the details of the style are

http://www.unlocker-forums.co.uk/testvb/designs/vision

now that is the place the files were installed to, after install I went into the admin cp and selected styles and selected download / upload sttles and then clicked browse and chose the vision expanded 306 xml from my machine, I selected crreate new style from drop down box and clicked import.

thats it thats all I did to insall the style.

Now when you said

"You will have to edit the control that points to your images -- it tells you this in the directions"

I have no idea what that means?

also the reason it looks ok to you is becuase I have been altering the xml file to get it to work, if I use the original then no images at all are displayed.

regards

The Vision Style images are being called from here: http://www.unlocker-forums.co.uk/designs/vision/ However, I see no images in the vision/buttons folder or the vision/statusicon folder. This indicates that you did not install the style completely. There are 34 files (not counting the Windows generated file Thumbs.db) in the buttons folder and 41 in the statusicon folder.

I have no idea what that means?

Go to your admin control center and to Styles & Templates, Style Manager. In the drop-down box for your Vision style, select "All style options". Go down that panel to the "Image Paths" panel and make sure all the image paths are correct for the button and status icon images (ie: /designs/vision/buttons etc.).

Yesterday it looked fine. Today I can't see any images, even the ones you have in the folders. If you did it right, you won't have to edit the XML, unless you are customizing it.

I would uninstall the style and delete all the files associated with it and start again.

well I have finaly got it sorted, it was nothing I was doing wrong it is a fault in the styles themselves.

my test forum is at mysite.co.uk/testvb but all the code in the xml file for images and some links was wrong as it was dropping one level so it was looking for .co.uk/designs instead of .co.uk/testvb/designs

this is the case with all three styles I tested, if I look at original style for vb the image calls were (for example) folder/buttons but these styles were calling /folder/buttons which made them drop a level.

also in the xml file there were certain links that were being called as (for example) ../faq.php now that was again making it drop a level, I have since done what you said on gone into "All style options" and changed all the /designs to designes, I then did a search for the instance using the style search option to find these in other templates, changed them and now everything works great.

in other words if you have your forum in a folder and not in the root then your gonna have problems with these styles, I am going to have mie in the root once I have all the testing done so wouldnt have been a problem then but it is a roblem now.

thanks for all your help mate it was much appriciated.

regards

I didn't do much, but you're welcome. You may have had to do a little editing, but I'll tell ya, I have never seen more beautiful styles. However, with all the work I have in my site with just one style, I don't know how others have time for more.

Good luck to you and enjoy.
